Club Muse Residents: Kuru

The idea is simple. Long time collaborators Ryan Origin and Jeffrey Francis Tovar (aka <div>) wanted to change the way they were participating in music, so the KURU project was born. Rather than strictly following genre lines, they decided in 2008 that freedom to create and perform whatever they choose both in audio and design was the way forward. Flash ahead to 2010, Kuru’s original music (at tempos from 128-174 BPM) is about to make a serious impact on the EDM world, and their club MUSE has gone through a successful reboot into a loving home for fans of progressive dance music. The plan was clearly devised upon the creation of KURU, and now the results are here.

The third track by Kuru to be signed is a collaboration with San Francisco Bass icon, UFO!. Entitled Aoki, the San Francisco label Frite Nite picked it up and will have it featured on one of their biggest releases to-date — a mixed and unmixed digital download, an unmixed six-track 12″, and a mixed CD due out October 4th, 2011.

Kuru has been driven with a near-obsessive force lately, releasing two mixes within thirty days… and now a third. The Media Contender Podcast Series is the latest aim of our residents’ efforts with an 80 minute mix that displays exactly where they are sonically. Featuring tracks and remixes by Amon Tobin, Photek, Breakage, Pearson Sound, Boddika, iO, Cosmin TRG and Blawan just to name a few, Kuru also has a couple of their own collaborations on there to round things out.
