Kuru member Jeffrey Francis Tovar (Staticka) is one of those guys who is constantly stealing moments of the world around him through photographs. Whether it be with his iPhone or DLSR, you can always expect some kind of visual intrigue on his Tumblr. The results are usually something that partner Ryan Origin finds trigger a quasi-synesthetic quality, so the two decided to take this inspiration and fuse the analogous mediums, bringing you the F-Stop Series — a collection of photos coupled with an off-the-cuff musical piece.

You can enjoy the series here on the Club Muse site or at the Kuru Soundcloud page.

There will never be another like the Baldhead Slick to convey strong messages with an embracing hue of monotone.

As expected when someone of his status passes, DJs from around the globe pay their respects with tribute mixes. We were pretty ecstatic when the one and only DJ Premier gave us this from his Live From HeadQCourterz show on Sirius Radio.

His life was claimed by cancer-related causes, leaving behind a long list of influential rhymes and music.

Through the span of his career, he and DJ Premier forged their named into history books with the creation of Gang Starr in the late ’80s. With his gruff voice and Premier’s quintessential East Coast beats, the two created a jazz-influenced formula that would become part of a movement. Being an MC from New York, his style held the standard gusto and bravado that comes with the territory, lacking no amount of confidence or ego. Some of his rhymes contained words such as, “You could say I’m sort of he boss, so get lost”, which would be a laughable episode if coming from most any other rapper. But Guru had a way of putting social themes into a brash and straight-forward context that led a nation of millions to become life-long fans. While Hip Hop may never be the same as those golden years, we still have classic music from one of the best to grace the microphone. Rest in peace, Guru, you will certainly be missed and never forgotten.

Below are 5 of our favorite tracks to come from the minds of Gang Starr.

Brandon Hirzel (aka “Bemo”) and The Glitch Mob proudly present “Beyond Monday,” an experimental installation of art and sound.

Live electronic music meets architectural projection-mapping synchronized in the depths of the Los Angeles’ industrial district, painting life back into the urban landscape through the celebration of electronic music, motion-design and film. Cinematographer David Myrick captures The Glitch Mob as they play Jazzmutant Lemur MIDI controllers in sync with Bemo’s detailed visual creations. Utilizing the city as their canvas and technology as their medium, this is truly a unique collaboration. “Beyond Monday” pushes the boundaries of modern digital art and marries the latest technologies in electronic music, motion design and film.

Club Muse partner Clancy Silver was there for the filming and had this to say about the experience.

I was invited down to check out the filming of this piece and if you only knew the precision and forethought that went into this production, well, I was impressed to say the least. They transformed the side of a warehouse building in Downtown Los Angeles into a canvas for visuals created by Hirzel, mapped not only to audio cues, but to the dimensions and facade elements of the podiums and building itself. Blacking out the street lights, setting up the projectors accurately, dodging cars passing by and running a guerrilla shoot was no easy task but kudos to all involved because the finished product is pretty damn good.
