Kuru & UFO!’s ‘Aoki’ featured on Upcoming Frite Nite Compilation, ‘Surreal Estate’

The third track by Kuru to be signed is a collaboration with San Francisco Bass icon, UFO!. Entitled Aoki, the San Francisco label Frite Nite picked it up and will have it featured on one of their biggest releases to-date — a mixed and unmixed digital download, an unmixed six-track 12″, and a mixed CD due out October 4th, 2011.

From the Frite Nite website - “Surreal Estate” is a collection of tunes highlighting some of our fondest styles in current electronic music — tribal-influenced spacey dance grooves, progressive footwork, modern electro funk, and UK-centric dubstep riddims, all carefully selected and mixed by Ana Sia. Exploring the atmospheric and ethereal, yet bass-heavy, funky and playfully musical, we hope to show our passion for music that works as well for the dance floor as it does the intimate listen. Peep the artwork by Sweden’s Kilian Eng (remember the amazing Lazer Sword album art?) who blessed us with the appropriate M.C. Escher-esque imagery.

The Media Contender Podcast Series is the latest aim of our residents’ efforts with an 80 minute mix that displays exactly where they are sonically. In support of the August 5th show at Incognito with Techno icon, Dustin Zahn, we put together this warm-up mix to get into the spirit of the night ahead. Combining two of our favorite genres, we start off with some ominous Techno-influenced Bass Music, featuring tracks from artists such as Cosmin TRG and 2562. We then blend our way into the more traditional sounds with Techno tracks by Alan Fitzpatrick, Joseph Capriati, Drumcell, John Tejada and Raíz to name a few. On the audio front, Tim Parker founded You’ll Soon Know, a website that is all about bringing you artists who have, or will be known as modern day voortrekkers. With his visual talents, Tim is a well-respected pixel pusher focusing his creativity in the graphic design field. We see a lot of this going on—the marriage between design and music—and Tim is a man continuously cultivating his passion for both.

This is IT! We’re celebrating our 20th podcast version today, and with it comes a new, abbreviated moniker and a refined, yet true-to-the-original look. For this special occasion we thought we’d keep it local and ask long-time friend Kingpin to give us a second offering and show us where he’s at with his cultured taste in EDM. Kingpin’s last effort for Interesting Times was a multi-genre trip through big tune after big tune.
