Kuru & UFO!’s ‘Aoki’ featured on Upcoming Frite Nite Compilation, ‘Surreal Estate’

The third track by Kuru to be signed is a collaboration with San Francisco Bass icon, UFO!. Entitled Aoki, the San Francisco label Frite Nite picked it up and will have it featured on one of their biggest releases to-date — a mixed and unmixed digital download, an unmixed six-track 12″, and a mixed CD due out October 4th, 2011.

From the Frite Nite website - “Surreal Estate” is a collection of tunes highlighting some of our fondest styles in current electronic music — tribal-influenced spacey dance grooves, progressive footwork, modern electro funk, and UK-centric dubstep riddims, all carefully selected and mixed by Ana Sia. Exploring the atmospheric and ethereal, yet bass-heavy, funky and playfully musical, we hope to show our passion for music that works as well for the dance floor as it does the intimate listen. Peep the artwork by Sweden’s Kilian Eng (remember the amazing Lazer Sword album art?) who blessed us with the appropriate M.C. Escher-esque imagery.

The Media Contender Podcast Series is the latest aim of our residents’ efforts with an 80 minute mix that displays exactly where they are sonically. Featuring tracks and remixes by Amon Tobin, Photek, Breakage, Pearson Sound, Boddika, iO, Cosmin TRG and Blawan just to name a few, Kuru also has a couple of their own collaborations on there to round things out. Kuru at DLX’s Album Release Party Tonight, 08.02

DLX has a big month ahead of him. Tonight marks the night of his very first full-length album release party, where he will be joined by his band, Very Angry Scientist, Knyphy, Kuru, Deco, and Crystal G. The album, “Listening to Science,” is due for digital release on August 16th through none other than LA’s, SMOG. The party is a double celebration, as not only will we be cheering him on for the album release, but we will also be saying our official goodbyes before he leaves LA to move back to his native North Carolina.

DLX made pretty heavy rotation around the Los Angeles Dubstep scene, sharing the stage with many of the genres originators. Like many of his fellow producers, DLX has notable roots in the jungle and breakbeat arenas, reconstructing his influences with a notable & calculated kick, snare, and bassline that sinks deep into the floor. Media Contender’s Laura Dambuleff got the chance to ask him a few quick questions before the show, giving us a hefty amount of insight into the man behind DLX. Click here to read the full interview.

Kuru at Incognito with Dustin Zahn, Aug 5th

A monster behind the decks and in the studio since 1998, Dustin Zahn is one of North America’s youngest world-touring techno veterans. Along with Ian Lehman, he also forged the well-received “Attack People” live performance. In terms of production, he’s recorded with some of the genre’s top producers for a long list of labels, including his own imprints Abiotic and Enemy.
